Some Aspects of Literary Criticism in Sanskrit or the Theories of Rasa and Dhvani is considered to be the best, dealing with the theories of Rasa and Dhvani. There are eight different schools of critical thought in Sanskrit Poetics, but the most important of them are those that expose these two theories. Hence it is possible to treat almost the entire Sanskrit literary criticism from the standpoint of these two. These theories, i.e., Rasa and Dhvani, are dealt with in this book intelligently and in a lucid manner which also contains, in addition to a chronology, an account of their historical development and formulation. This work also attracts the special attention to the momentous and inevitable features of Sanskrit Literary Criticism, namely, the development of the meaning of Rasa, Bharata's date, the relative chronology of Bhamaha and Dandin, the authorship of the Dhvanikarikas, Rudrata and Rudrabhatta, and the theory of Rasa considered and held in the Abhinavabharati of Abhinavagupta.
