Of the various systems used in libraries for knowledge organization, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) is one of the oldest and most prevalent systems all over the world. The fact that DDC is in use in more than 135 countries in some 200,000 libraries and is published in about 30 languages, speaks volumes of its utility and popularity. A long and arduous journey of more than 100 years starting from the first edition of DDC in 1876 till 2003 when 22nd edition came out, the scheme has witnessed many idiosyncratic changes in form of its twenty-two editions so far. Although the scheme is one of the major internationally recognized classification systems, yet there is hardly a book on the subject that may highlight special features of the successive editions of DDC.
