About the book

The records of the Dutch East India Company are recognized to be a major source material on Indian history for the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The Company established in 1602, was the biggest trading entity of its time. It engaged in extensive trading operations in India for nearly two hundred years. The letters, reports and other documents available in the Company`s archives contain an enormous amount of detail on a variety of subjects. This volume contains a total of 130 documents for the four years between 1624 and 1627. Apart from the correspondence between the factories on the Coromandel coast and Gujarat on the one hand and the Governor-General and Council at Batavia on the other, these include a number of miscellaneous documents sent as enclosures to the correspondence.
